Wellness for Mind and Body through Essential Oils
Essential oils have been used for centuries to aid in the wellness of people and animals. The oils are used for a very wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends depending on user experience and desired benefit. Essential oils are usually administered by one of three methods: diffused aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally as dietary supplements.
If using natural methods to treat you and your horse is something that you've been exploring, then essential oils are for you. The oils can be used in a homemade fly spray, keeping toxic chemicals away from your horse and out of the environment. While colic requires veterinary attention, there are oils such as Digestzen and Peppermenit that may help relieve some of the distress while you wait for the vet to arrive. Almost all oils that you can use on yourself can be used with your horse. Try some Serenity for the anxiety you share prior to a show. Problem with hoof abscesses or thrush? A little oregano or melaleuca oil can help to clear it up. (Oils can be used with other animals but only certain oils are safe.)
